Armed men wearing ski masks and hoodies entered the multimillion-dollar Hyde Park Circle home of MAC Group chief David Morton in Toronto early Thursday, shooting the CEO and his two adult daughters and striking his wife with a hammer, police said.

The intruders, two with handguns and a third wielding a hammer, forced their way into the exclusive gated community, demanding valuables, according to Toronto police inspector Kristy Smith.

All four family members - David Morton, his wife Doriana Zohil, and daughters Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton - were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Two victims sustained "life-altering injuries" while the other two suffered severe but "non-life-threatening injuries".

Police reported that the suspects fired multiple rounds after a struggle and then fled the scene in an SUV. CCTV footage from the mansion has been provided to investigators.

Inspector Smith said there is no evidence the home was specifically targeted and motives remain unclear. She warned of a recent rise in violent home invasions in affluent Toronto neighbourhoods.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow posted on X, expressing deep concern over the early-morning attack in the Bridle Path area and offering thoughts for the family's recovery.
