Thierry Henry briefly interrupted Kate Scott while presenting the Ballon d'Or ceremony at London's Palladium Theatre last night to correct her pronunciation of the Socrates Award.

The pair, who have built a rapport covering Champions League for CBS Sports, were about to introduce the humanitarian award when Scott, 45, said: "And we'll also hand out the Socrates award, which is...".

Henry, 49, responded: "What do you mean, Socrates? We don't have any philosophers here... it's Socrates". He tried to deliver the name with a Brazilian inflection, while Scott used the usual English version.

Scott quickly smoothed the awkward moment, saying: "Excuse my pronunciation everybody. Trust Thierry to get it right." The show continued and Bukayo Saka was presented with the Socrates Award.

After the ceremony, Scott appeared on the red carpet alongside her boxing-star husband Malik.

During the event, the presenter announced a commercial break, prompting a noticeable groan from the audience.

England captain Harry Kane was later crowned the 2026 men's Ballon d'Or winner, beating strong contenders such as Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal.

Kane, 33, thanked French football, the event's London setting and his Bayern Munich teammates, and gave a lengthy speech praising his colleagues, coaches and the England squad.
