Bromley are reportedly in direct talks with former England international Ashley Cole about taking over as manager, after Andy Woodman's unexpected dismissal.
The League One club, currently 22nd after winning only two of their first eleven games, are looking for a big-name appointment to turn around their season.
Cole, 45, left his recent role at Serie B side Cesena after eight matches and is now seeking his next managerial challenge.
Interim boss Byron Webster is still in charge, but the Hayes Lane board hope a high-profile hire will spark improvement.
The former left-back has built coaching experience with England, Chelsea, Everton and Birmingham City, and recently stepped into management with Cesena.
Cole has said he wants to play entertaining football, stating: "I played as a defender all my life, but I do not want to coach defensive football. My idea is to entertain the fans, focus on possession, fast attacks and winning games."
Blackburn Rovers assistant Mike Dodds is also being considered, but Cole remains the leading candidate.
Woodman was dismissed despite guiding Bromley from the National League to League One in three seasons and winning the FA Trophy.
In a statement, former keeper Mike Dodds said: "It is with great disappointment that my time at Bromley Football Club has come to an end after five and a half years of continued success and achievement. When I arrived at the club, we had a vision of where we wanted to take Bromley Football Club. To have taken this club from non-league football to League One in just five seasons, as well as winning the FA Trophy at Wembley against a fantastic Wrexham side, is something I will always be incredibly proud of."
