A family was left stunned after their daughter claimed to see a monster in her room at night, only to uncover the real cause.
The young girl repeatedly mentioned a mysterious beast, prompting her parents to wonder what was happening.
They eventually looked up at the ceiling and found the answer.
TikTok user @maurin23 posted: "My daughter's been talking about a monster on the roof every night.
"Tonight we found out why."
The explanation was that the bedside lamp, when switched on in the evening, cast a shadow behind the lampshade onto the ceiling.
The resulting shape resembled a creepy face with triangular eyes and a crooked smile.
The astonished parents wrote: "What the helly!"
Finding humor in the incident, they added: "Too funny to not share" when sharing the clip online.
The video attracted more than 16,000 likes on social media.

They clarified: "It's only if the lamps on so never for long but still gonna get a new one."
