Residents are demanding answers regarding a massive holiday park that has been left to decay for three years. The abandoned Camber Sands Pontins site features barbed wire fences, with locals stating the closure ruined their town since operations ceased in 2023.

The ruined property occasionally hosts armed police training, leaving gunshots as the main sound echoing from the former holiday complex. Approximately 820 chalets sit across 32 acres of land, accompanied by half destroyed tents, damaged golf carts, tossed metal cages, and blocked staircases.

Owner Britannia Hotels shut down the location following falling sales and financial losses. Britannia Hotels holds a long term lease with over 100 years remaining, leaving the local council with limited authority over the property.

Local resident Chris noted that a continuous spotlight shines directly into his bedroom window from behind the fence. He witnessed armed police training operations, stating that officers use police dogs and conduct loud exercises without prior warning.

Pensioner Maureen Reid, 85, expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding potential redevelopment plans. Local resident Dave Turby mentioned that the closure created a significant gap in the local economy by removing tourist foot traffic.

Local Member of Parliament Helena Dollimore stated that Britannia Hotels previously expressed intentions to redevelop the property as a holiday destination following a 2024 meeting. Britannia Hotels confirmed discussions with planning officers from Rother District Council regarding pre application proposals, adding that the vacant property remains available for emergency services training.

A Rother District Council spokesperson explained that while the council serves as the freeholder, the long term lease places building and site management responsibilities entirely with Britannia Hotels.
