Kevin Delaney, a journalist turned digital entrepreneur, has been appointed head of digital content and subscription at NBC News, a role designed to link editorial and business functions.
Delaney will oversee digital publishing and NBC News' AI projects, responsibilities that have grown as the organization expands its digital and streaming lineup. Recently, NBCUniversal's news division added more programming to the streaming service NBC News Now and introduced a mobile-focused subscription product.
He will answer to Catherine Kim, executive vice president of editorial and content at NBC News, and Sat Brainch, chief business officer of NBCUniversal News Group, and is set to begin on November 16.
Delaney co-founded Quartz, a site known for innovative digital delivery, and Charter, a digital media firm centered on leadership. He most recently served as editor in chief of the San Francisco Standard, a local-news outlet that later acquired Charter.
Earlier in his career, Delaney held senior editorial positions at The Wall Street Journal, where he managed digital editorial work and helped grow its subscription services, as well as roles at The New York Times and The Information. He started his professional life as a TV producer in Montreal.
