A fearless puppy stepped in to protect a nine-year-old schoolgirl from a violent goose attack in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, on October 22.

Video from China shows the girl walking toward her home when the bird suddenly lunged, flapping its wings and trying to bite her legs.

A woman and an older lady standing in the doorway froze, leaving the child to fend off the bird alone until the family dog heard her cries.

The dog turned toward the scene, rushed forward barking and snapped at the goose, biting its wing and giving the girl a chance to escape.

The goose attempted to bite back, but the canine slipped under a parked car to avoid further harm.

According to the girl's father, Mr Geng, the family originally kept two geese; the other was killed after it repeatedly pecked the child.

Following the latest incident, the family intends to slaughter the remaining goose and eat it when the girl turns ten.

In a separate incident, six dogs pursued a man who tried to sexually assault two women in Melbourne's Gardiners Creek, Kooyong, on July 14 at about 11:10 am.

The attacker jumped from a bush, grabbed a 67-year-old woman, then moved toward a 39-year-old after she freed herself.

Footage captured by one of the women shows dogs of various breeds barking, jumping, and circling the man, causing him to stumble and yell before he fled.
