Russell Brand Found Guilty of Rape and Sexual Assault

Russell Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court after a jury deliberated for eight and a half hours. The comedian-turned-conspiracy theorist preyed on women between 1999 and 2009, and now faces a significant custodial term when he is sentenced on Monday by trial judge Mr Justice Bennathan.

Brand gave a thumbs up and mouthed a message to the court as he was remanded into custody. His barrister Ian Winter KC launched into a verbal tirade at Sunday Times journalist Rosamund Urwin outside the courtroom, telling her that she fucked it after she stated that justice had been done.

The jury delivered verdicts across multiple counts following a trial that lasted nearly four weeks. Brand was found guilty of sexually assaulting a Channel 4 worker in 2009, groping an MTV worker in 2004, kissing and groping a Capital Radio worker in 2005, and raping a 21-year-old fan at his Hampstead house in 2009. He was cleared of other charges, including another count of rape and attempted indecent assault.

Met Police Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy stated that Russell Brand used his influence, status, and fame to exploit and sexually offend against women. Prosecutor David Roberts added that the offender was a manipulator with an insatiable desire to get what he wanted regardless of whether consent was given.

Sentencing Guidelines and Further Accusations

The maximum sentence for someone convicted of rape is life imprisonment, while sexual assault carries a maximum sentence of 10 years behind bars. It was also revealed after the verdicts that Brand has been accused of raping two more women, including a 16-year-old schoolgirl and a woman who dated him when he was 30 years old.
