As Ramayana Part 1 opens worldwide on Nov. 5, producer Namit Malhotra says the decision to adapt the Indian epic at this scale came once the talent, experience and filmmaking muscle needed to do the story justice were finally in place.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the first of two films stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, the prince sent into exile whose wife Sita is abducted by Ravana, the king of Lanka. The score unites A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer on an Indian film for the first time, with T-Series as the music label and Amazon Music as the streaming partner.

Filmmakers Discuss Global Vision and Faithfulness to the Source

Namit Malhotra states that bringing the same ambition of the biggest films in the world to the project comes with a tremendous responsibility because of what Lord Ram means to people. Prime Focus Studios produces the film alongside Yash's Monster Mind Creations, while DNEG and sister company ReDefine handle the visual effects.

Director Nitesh Tiwari explains that his attention centers on the relationships, difficult choices and emotions within the moments. Knowing the outcome of the epic does not lessen the emotion, according to the director, because audiences return to stories that make them feel something.

Recording the Orchestral Score in London

Music was central to the producer's plan from day one, with A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer as the only choice to bring the vision to life. The score was recorded with an orchestra at AIR Studios in London, where Indian and Western musicians worked on the story together.

The first track titled \u201cJai Jai Ram\u201d arrived on Sept. 14 to coincide with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Each track receives its own release window to connect audiences with the film before they reach a cinema.

Amazon Music and T-Series Collaboration Strategy

Amazon Music general manager Rishabh Gupta notes that streaming services are becoming collaborators in culture. The platform hosted an Oct. 21 celebration at the Chennai Trade Centre featuring Rahman, Kapoor, Pallavi and Yash, alongside rolling out short-form video series and character playlists.

Bhushan Kumar of T-Series describes the album as an experience that carries the legacy of the epic to audiences around the world while honoring its Indian roots. The partnership with Amazon Music creates opportunities for focused discovery across global markets.
