A 66-year-old former Royal Navy sailor was killed in a fatal collision on the eastbound carriageway of the M27. He was riding a black and white Triumph motorcycle when the accident occurred on Friday, October 16.

Richard Skilton, a father of five from Gosport, was described by his family as a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather of ten, with another grandchild on the way whom he will never meet.

His family said he completed a full career in the Royal Navy, dedicating many years to serving his country, and that he was a passionate motorcycle enthusiast who will be remembered for his love of family, naval service and the memories he left behind.

The M27 eastbound in Hampshire was closed between Junction 9, Whiteley, and Junction 12, Portsmouth, after the fatal smash. National Highways was called in and the road remained shut for several hours. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary launched an investigation following the incident.
