Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele were criticised online for "disrespecting" Harry Kane at the Ballon d'Or ceremony held at London's Palladium Theatre.

Both French players attended the glittering event, where Mbappe, 27, entered as a favourite for the top prize and Dembele had won the award the previous year.

Kane, 33, ultimately triumphed, beating Mbappe by just 41 points while Dembele finished seventh.

After Kane's victory, video showed him greeting the two Frenchmen. As Kane passed, Mbappe faced away and Dembele was on a phone call.

Dembele briefly set his phone down to shake Kane's hand, then returned to his call. Kane later shook Mbappe's hand, received a hug and both men smiled.

Kane appeared unfazed by the brief exchange, but some fans took to X to condemn the French duo.

Fans' Reactions

One user wrote, "You should stand up when someone greets you, what kind of rude people are these?" Another said, "Why he ain't stand up? this guy has no respect." A third added, "It's Harry Kane who's going to greet the others, and they're not even able to stand up to congratulate him. Every minute that passes, I feel even happier for him."

Mbappe and Lamine Yamal also drew criticism for their reactions when Ronaldo announced Kane as the winner. While Michael Olise smiled, Yamal looked disappointed and Mbappe wore a wry smile.

A fan wrote, "Mbappe and Yamal are such disrespectful, ill-mannered losers hahahaha, they can't even be bothered to stand up properly to congratulate Kane. Luckily, they didn't win." Another said, "It's just disrespectful. And that's why Harry is the winner."
