Celebrity Traitors winner Romesh Ranganathan admits he was terrified of James Blunt after banishing the singer during a tense show finale. Alongside fellow Faithful Sebastian Bash Croft, the comedian triumphed during Friday's action packed final, winning a collective £83,000 for their respective charities.
But Ranganathan, 48, says their decision to banish an indignant Blunt, who was also a Faithful, left him panic stricken as they filmed their final scenes. Appearing on BBC spin-off show Uncloaked, he joked that James Blunt, at some point in the future, will kill him.
You think about all the possible outcomes of the endgame, what wasn't possible for me was a nemesis, he said. I didn't expect to make enemies, like real world enemies, and the better news is, he's been military trained.
Blunt, a serving British Army Captain before entering the music industry, was outraged after Ranganathan incorrectly accused him of being a Traitor during Friday's show. I had two emotions, one was I felt so bad for James that I had done that, and two was I thought, 'oh my God, all the James Blunt fans are gonna hate me,' said Ranganathan.
In my defence I will say after that last Round Table, you are wearing all of your nerves on the outside of your body, and you're just trying to accumulate whatever data you possibly can. In the moment, you think, 'Why has Romesh developed this belief of something that seemed so so small?'
But your antenna are up, and you're like, 'Can I find anything that might give me a clue before I go to that Fire Pit?' And that was the thing that I latched onto. I'm sorry about that, it was a wafer thing thing. He added that his reaction terrified him and he considered leaving.
Blunt's banishment came after fans claimed to spot a potential feud between the singer and his fellow finalist during Thursday's Round Table showdown. Taking to Reddit, one viewer wrote that Romesh made a very sharp comment towards Blunty regarding personality differences.
Another replied that neither person did anything particularly wrong and some personalities just do not mesh super well. Ranganathan and Croft will divide the show's prize money between respective charities The Refugee Council and Choose Love.
