A Toyota Camry erupted into a massive fireball on California's Interstate 215 on Sunday, scorching two highway patrol officers who were attending the stalled vehicle.
Footage shows the blaze swallowing the officers, who were later hospitalized with burns but are expected to recover fully.
The incident occurred as the officers spoke with the suspected drunk driver; both the driver and his passenger escaped without injury.
Officer Javier Navarro told Patch, "An explosion occurred, causing the officers to be engulfed in flames."
Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived within minutes, dousing the fire before it could reach nearby grassland.
The driver was booked into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, while his passenger was not arrested.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
The event follows similar recent incidents, including a taxi fire in Scotland and a 2022 blast in the Bronx that injured seven firefighters.
