Vincent Kompany was released from hospital on Tuesday, five days after he collapsed at Bayern Munich's training facility on Friday.

Medical teams had worked intensively to pinpoint the reason for the Bayern manager's sudden health issue, which led to his airlift to a medical centre.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl announced that a breakthrough had been achieved and Kompany is expected to return to the sidelines soon.

He stated: "They have found what it is. It's meningeal irritation that caused this incident last Friday. I'm very, very sure that he will soon be back on the sideline at 100 per cent."
