Trump Ordered to Face New Hearing Over East Potomac Park Redevelopment
A federal judge has set a new hearing on President Donald Trump's proposal to redevelop East Potomac Park after he announced on social media this week that he would move ahead despite the court's injunction.
U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes granted a preliminary injunction at the request of a preservationist group and local D.C. golfers, halting the project. In response, Trump said, "we are closing the East Potomac Golf Course Site as scheduled" on Nov. 15, and claimed Reyes "does not have the Constitutional Right to 'ask for or receive notices,' which are time-consuming, unnecessary, expensive, and unconstitutional."
The hearing is slated for either Friday or Monday, per Reyes's order.
Trump has repeatedly mocked Judge Reyes and argued that the East Potomac Golf Links are "dangerous" and need a revamp.
Reyes ordered the new hearing, noting that Trump's post contradicts testimony from Department of Justice lawyers who said they were unaware of any future tree-removal plans before the project begins.
