A controversial former superintendent of the Mountain View Whisman School District, already known for spending large sums on New Age chakra healing and personal gurus, has left the district liable for a $700,000 sexual harassment settlement. The board voted unanimously behind closed doors on October 22 to approve the payout.
The district's chief executive had previously hired a life coach at a cost of $370,000, drawing criticism for the extravagant use of taxpayer money. New allegations of sexual harassment have now resulted in the substantial financial obligation.
Board members said the decision was made to resolve the claims and avoid further legal expenses. The settlement will be paid out of the district's reserves, adding to ongoing concerns about fiscal management.
