Burnley supporters expressed disappointment after the club announced Fabio Celestini as its new manager on Wednesday.

The Clarets confirmed Celestini, 50, took over following the dismissal of Nicky Hayen last weekend.

Celestini previously led FC Basel and CSKA Moscow, securing a Swiss League and Cup double in the 2024/25 season and winning the 2025 Russian Super Cup.

Fans on X were critical, with one writing, "Absolutely clueless f***ing owners." Another posted, "F***ing joke, making the exact same mistake again. Our time has finally come and there's nothing we can do about it." A third said, "Another risky appointment from Burnley, however his track record seems more promising than Hayen's." One user added, "Enter our Watford era," while another complained, "We've lost our way in every department at this football club."

"We needed a manager local with Championship experience. We're moving like a Watford," a fan wrote.

Celestini inherits a side fighting for survival at the bottom of the Championship, sitting 22nd after six defeats, five draws and one win this season.

He responded to the challenge, stating, "I look at Burnley and I see a club with big potential and players with real quality, who can help us achieve our supporters' ambitions. I know the situation we are in, and I have lived it before. Our supporters deserve to see a team playing with belief from the first whistle."

Celestini's debut match will be a Halloween fixture against Portsmouth at Turf Moor.
