A British mother, Rachel Weston, 42, collapsed and died in her hotel room while on holiday in Lanzarote.
Weston was staying in Puerto del Carmen with her husband Mark, 41, and two friends when she suddenly fell ill.
Initially, she dismissed the symptoms as a cold and visited a local pharmacy, appearing to recover.
Her condition then deteriorated, forcing the couple to end the trip early and arrange emergency flights home.
She collapsed inside the hotel room and lifeguards, followed by emergency crews, were unable to revive her.
Local reports indicate a cardiac arrest, though the exact cause remains unconfirmed.
The couple, from Bury, Greater Manchester, arrived on the island at the start of October and were scheduled to return on October 3.
Mark Weston described the loss as a "total nightmare" and said his world had been turned upside down.
He recalled that they had been together for 11 years, married for two, and that Rachel was the "absolute heart of our home."
Rachel was a stepmother to Mark's three children - Steven, 22, Charley, 19, and Mikey, 15 - and cared for their two dogs, Maisie and Padmé.
The pair married on May 11, 2024, after a proposal on stage at a Bowling for Soup concert.
Rachel worked as a carer at Regency Care Home.
Mark now faces arranging her funeral while supporting the family.
The couple had travel medical insurance, which covered costs to bring Rachel home.
Mark launched a fundraiser for a fitting farewell; the funeral is set for November 6, with attendees asked to wear purple in her memory.
