Bill Maher said Donald Trump's criticism of their recent White House dinner would not go unanswered, delivering a sharp reply on Friday's episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher."
During a segment on "Real Time," Maher referenced Trump's 1,300-word Truth Social post from Sunday night, which labeled the comedian a "complete and total loser," a "major POTHEAD," and claimed he "looked like hell" at the dinner that also featured ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith and former rapper Kid Rock. Trump further alleged Maher begged for years to appear on his HBO show and declared he would never watch it again, calling it "FAKE NEWS."
Maher opened his monologue by noting the length of Trump's post, calling it "the longest ever" and joking that dining at the White House felt "like the opposite of the Cheesecake Factory." He compared Trump's reaction to "Kelly Clarkson in a toy store" and said the dinner was "like dating Taylor Swift: a lot of laughs at the time, but later they're tearing you a new asshole."
The host then read excerpts from Trump's post, admitted the opening line was accurate, and argued the former president missed the point of his remarks. Maher showed a clip proving he had advocated disarming Iran, contradicting Trump's claim, and said he had never called the president, despite Trump's accusation of constant calls.
He also dismissed Trump's assertion that he "invited himself to the White House," pointing out photos from the event that showed no bruised eye or nose. Maher concluded that the two are unlikely to share a meal again.
