Warwick Crown Court heard that 26-year-old Kinga Wydrzynska and her 28-year-old partner Michal Stasiak systematically abused and murdered their 13-month-old daughter Isabella in Rugby, Warwickshire.

Isabella, who had been in foster care for four months, returned to her Polish parents in April 2024 and nine months later suffered a catastrophic head injury at the family home.

Jurors were told Wydrzynska was alone in the house when the fatal attack occurred and she recorded a six-minute video of herself with her "lifeless" daughter before dialing 999 about 17 minutes later.

Prosecutor Annabel Darlow KC described the video as a self-pitying monologue, noting that Wydrzynska spoke in Polish, cried lightly and blamed the child while repeatedly urging her to breathe.

The court heard Isabella endured a fractured skull, fractured ribs, a broken arm, a facial burn, subdural haemorrhage and multiple bruises, injuries that occurred over at least five weeks before her death.

Darlow said the pattern of abuse, neglect and mistreatment was known to both parents, who also face charges of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and child cruelty.

Wydrzynska, who moved to the UK in 2019 and met Stasiak at a Tesco warehouse in Crick, Northants, denies murder and all other counts. Stasiak left the home in December 2024 after his arrest for assaulting Wydrzynska and remains on police bail.

The trial is ongoing.
