An 80-year-old man lost his life after an orange van hit him in a Sainsbury's car park in Knotty Ash, Liverpool.

Police responded to the site on 10 October following reports of a serious collision.

Officers said the senior citizen was a pedestrian involved in a "serious" accident with the van.

He was taken to hospital soon after but died the following day from his injuries.

The van driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson said: "My thoughts are with the man's family at this desperately sad time.

"We have launched an investigation and our priority is to ensure we get answers for his family and establish the facts about what happened.

"The car park was busy at the time of the collision and, while we already have some witness accounts and CCTV footage, I would ask people to cast their minds back to 10 October.

"If you saw the collision or feel you have information that may help our enquiries, please get in touch.

"Equally, if you have any additional footage, it could help us to establish exactly how this collision took place."
