## Article

Few could have imagined that Britain acting sweetheart, Helen Mirren, had once dabbled in cocaine.

But the 81-year-old, who won an Academy award for her portrayal of the Queen, recently opened up about using the class A drug, and vowed to never touch it again.

"I loved coke. I never did a lot, just a little bit at parties," she told GQ, admitting that she had first experimented with it in the 80s.

"I would not touch that drug ever again. You have to be conscious of the journey it is taken to get to you," she added.

But she is not the only A-lister to have admitted to trying out the drug.

## Spencer Matthews

Spencer Matthews first stepped into the spotlight in 2011, when he appeared in E4 Made in Chelsea.

There, he earned a reputation as the ultimate bad boy, cheating on girlfriends, arguing with cast members, and partying hard, including using cocaine.

In 2012, pictures emerged of the reality star allegedly caught on camera snorting cocaine at a club night in Bath, Somerset.

One fan who was with the group in Bath, Somerset, said: "He produced a bag of cocaine, grabbed a DVD case, and did a line."

Spencer, who was known for his wild partying while on the show, later said in 2015 that he had quit using the drug, but could not understand why it had caused such a stir.

"So many people do it," he told Cosmopolitan in 2015.

Well over a decade later and Spencer has undergone a major transformation. Not only has he packed in the drugs, but said he rarely drinks anymore.

He said he previously lost control of his drinking to the point where he considered himself an alcoholic.

"My relationship with alcohol is completely different now. Now, it does not really cross my mind," he said.

## Amy Poehler

Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler has also sampled cocaine in the past.

In her autobiography, Yes Please, the actress said she had experimented with various party drugs in her 20s.

In a chapter entitled, Obligatory Drug Stories, she wrote: "I tried cocaine, which I instantly loved but eventually hated."

"Cocaine is terrific if you want to hang out with people you do not know very well and play ping-pong all night. It is bad for almost everything else. The day after cocaine is rough."

She also confessed to taking ecstasy at a UCB comedy group United Citizens Brigade New Year Eve party where the crowd danced, drank water, and loved each other.

She said: "I also remember the next day when I thought I had no friends and I was so sad I wanted to sink into the carpet and permanently live there."

She has since put her party days behind her, and said in her book released in 2014 that she no longer parties with drugs.

## Robbie Williams

Take That star Robbie Williams found himself having to explain to fans earlier this year that he was not taking cocaine, after a video of him appearing to have a white powder falling off his face.

After giving a performance at the World Cup, Robbie appeared in an interview with MagentaTV, where a white substance visibly fell from his face onto a microphone.

The following day, he appeared on social media to say: "Just like to apologise for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday."

"I was deeply unprofessional, and people are worried about me, but it is okay cause I have several more," added the singer with a laugh as he exposed two white breath mints on his tongue.

But the singer former relationship with alcohol and drugs had left many fans concerned.

Robbie struggled with drug and drink addiction during the 1990s, even revealing that he once went on a six day bender taking anything he could get his hands on, including booze and cocaine.

Explaining the night in 2023, he said: "I thought I could snort the most, take the most pills, drink the most and I thought that was a superpower at the time."

It was shortly after that that Robbie realised he was an addict.

After quitting drink and drugs, the singer is now happily sober and said he finally trusts himself to stay clean.

He told Spanish newspaper El Pais earlier this year: "I have not drunk in 25 years. That part is not difficult for me. The difficult part is dealing with life as it is. But now I trust myself."

"I do not think that because I have a day of anxiety I will go out and do cocaine and relapse. I will simply sit with it and live with it. I know myself and trust myself more than before," he continued.

## George Clooney

George Clooney may live a serene and relaxed life with his family now, but even he is not immune to the allure of the party drug back in the day.

In 2025, he admitted he had done blow and stuff when first starting out as an actor in LA in the 1980s, but said drugs were never an issue for him.

"I used to make jokes about how I did too many drugs, but the truth is, it was never a big issue for me at all," he told the Esquire.

He soon realised that cocaine was pretty bad and appears to have left it in his past.

"There was an episode of Taxi where they are all doing blow. At the time, it was like, No, this is not like heroin. It is not addictive. But then it was like, Oh, well, it is actually pretty f****** bad," he continued.

"Plus, it was all cut with mannitol. The baby laxative. Everybody would do a line and then take a s***."

## Davina McCall

Davina McCall previously opened up about her struggles with substance abuse, which started when she was just a teenager.

Appearing on The Diary of a CEO podcast in 2023, Davina revealed how she first did cocaine at the age of 14 with her sister. One year later, at the age of 15, she did cocaine with her mother, Florence.

Things only spiralled further out of control as she reached her 20s. Speaking to the Mirror, she said: "I was a mess. You name it, I took it. Cocaine, ecstasy, and heroin."

She only realised the true extent of her problem when her best friend, Sarah Hiscox, took her aside to share just how worried she and Davina loved ones were.

"I had just come off the back of a 24 hour cocaine bender which is what made me realise heroin was not my problem, all drugs were my problem."

"I could not take cocaine normally either, I could not just take it for four hours and then go to bed. I had to take it for 24 hours, I was an animal."

"My friend said, We all know you have been lying to us, all your friends, and you are the topic of conversation at every dinner party I go to. The shame starts piling on. I started to feel a little bit, well f*** you to her. This is virtually my only friend I have got left."

Davina previously said that she was convinced no one knew about the problem as she still wore makeup, had a job, did not steal, and was not your average street junkie.

It was not until she met rock legend Eric Clapton, at the age of 25, and entered into a brief romance with him, that she managed to turn her life around.

She ended up going to meetings every day for 90 days, got clean from her addiction, and eventually landed her dream job on MTV.

## Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell famously admitted to snorting his way through four grams of cocaine a week in 2003, along with a long list of other substances.

During a Radio Times interview, he described himself as self-destructive before revealing exactly what he consumed week on week.

"I ended up on a shrink couch and he told me to write down how much I did in a week, 20 Es, four grams of coke, six of speed, half an ounce of hash, three bottles of Jack Daniels, 12 bottles of red wine, 60 pints, and 40 fags a day."

"He looked at me and said, do you wonder why you are depressed?"

Fortunately, he found a way to close the chapter on drugs after a stint in rehab in 2006. He said sobriety was in part helped by having a child of his own.

He said in 2021: "After 15 or 20 years of carousing the way I caroused and drinking the way I drank, the sober world is a pretty scary world."

"To come home and not to have the buffer support of a few drinks just to calm the nerves, it was a really amazing thing."

## Demi Lovato

Disney child star Demi Lovato first tried cocaine at the age of 17 while working for the channel.

"I felt out of control with the coke the first time," the actor revealed as part of a candid admission about her former drug use.

"My dad was an addict and an alcoholic and I guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family."

The first public admission that she was struggling came in 2010 when she dropped out of the Camp Rock 2 tour with the Jonas Brothers and went into rehab for emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time.

She continued to take drugs, including marijuana, and Adderall, an addictive prescription stimulant, in her youth, which landed her in hot water on a number of occasions.

"I lived fast and I was going to die young," she said in 2016. "I did not think I would make it to 21."

In 2021, she shared details of her experiences with addiction in two episodes of their YouTube documentary series Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil.

She eventually regained sobriety but then once again relapsed in 2018 and suffered an overdose.

Demi is since thought to have kicked the habit.

"I am in a great place, and I feel good. I am sober, and all the good things," she told ELLE earlier this year.

In a February interview with PEOPLE, she described alcohol-free living as second nature, saying she had become accustomed to attending social events without drinking.

## Matty Healy

The 1975 frontman is known for his provocative, straight-shooting attitude, one which has made him open to discussing his problems with cocaine and other drugs.

He first tried cocaine at the age of 18, but later went on to use heroin.

"I was 18, I dabbled in everything. I wanted to be Jack Kerouac," Matty told The Guardian in 2013.

"I thought I was as decadent as all of that. I thought, the world will catch up."

He described his 20s, when he lived alone in east London, as some of the worst for taking drugs.

"I used to associate being at home, which would be, what, one weekend every three months, with totally zoning out," he told The Times in 2020.

"You have to remember that drugs just make you fine with boredom and they make you fine with loneliness, so I would go home and check out. I know that I am, whatever, a skinny junkie with a mohawk, but I still run a massive company."

He later struggled with a heroin addiction, which he went to rehab for in 2017, and is thought to be on the straight and narrow these days.

## Nigella Lawson

Cooking legend and Bake Off latest judge, Nigella Lawson reputation for being a cosy homebody was somewhat tainted in 2013 when it was revealed that she used cocaine.

The TV host later admitted to having tried the drug on two occasions.

She has since said she was totally cannabis, cocaine, any drug, free.
